CAHS Awarded TWO Grants
The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs distributes CARES Act funds to cultural and humanities nonprofits
More than $1.1 million awarded to relieve Iowa’s cultural sector during pandemic
DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs announced today that it has awarded more than $1.1 million dollars in 173 grants statewide. This includes $923,372 for emergency relief and another $178,000 in humanities grants to help Iowa cultural organizations rebound from the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
Funding for the emergency relief grants was made possible by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs distributed CARES Act funds through its partnerships with the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Arts Midwest.
The grants are intended to support ongoing cultural projects, preserve jobs and keep the doors open at thousands of cultural organizations that boost the economy and creative life of communities.
“This is good news for Iowa’s arts, cultural and humanities organizations, which have been deeply affected by the pandemic,” Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Director Chris Kramer said. “We’re so grateful for the unanimous support of Iowa’s congressional delegation for these funds, which help keep Iowans employed and communities vibrant.”
The list of grant recipients includes art, history and children’s museums; arboretums and botanical gardens; aquariums and science centers; performing arts venues, vocal music groups and theaters; historical societies and historic homes; film and media organizations; and arts and cultural heritage festivals.
CAHS was awarded a $1000.00 Covid 19 Emergency Grant in June and we have been notified that we are being awarded a Capacity Building Grant of $5000.00!
This grant is intended to provide operating support so society funds can be used to for events and causes! The Randleman House has reopened for use providing social distancing guidelines are followed. Look for our events to resume soon. Due to the pandemic things make take some unexpected twists!
Visit often for details!
Correction!!!! Make that THREE grants!!
The first grant through the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs ($1000) was an emergency Covid 10 relief grant to provide basic support during the first quarter of this crazy year.
Grant number two was a Capacity Building Grant( $5000) designed to provide payment of operating expenses so other funds are freed to provide programming and exhibits.
Thanks to the CARES Act more funding was released by our governor and legislature to provide funding support for the remaining three-quarters of 2020. We were notified 12/22/20 that we will be receiving $1500.00 from this submission.
We cannot thank the Iowa Dept. of Cultural Affairs, the Governor and our legislature enough for helping us survive the pandemic. SWe plan to come roaring back in 2021 as soon as it is safe for everyone to gather.
