Historic Lustron Home
Much like the Ford Edsel, Lustron homes were an idea that never really quite caught on. Lustrons are an all-steel, pre-fabricated vermin-proof home. Built in the years of 1948-1950, their purpose was to house the veterans returning from WWII and provide a home for middle-class families. The company went bankrupt in 1950. There are two Lustron homes in Warren County, one being located in Carlisle at 210 School Street.Dr. Tom Lane, Supt. of Schools for Carlisle, recently spoke to the historical society about the probability that the house will need to be moved to provide access to athletic fields and also provide some much-needed parking. The district has no desire to demolish the unique home and would like to partner with CAHS and the city in an effort to preserve it.
